New Inca Trail Route Opens This Month

Good news for trekking enthusiasts! The Ministry of Culture of Peru has officially announced the incorporation of a new route—Route 6—into the Inca Trail Network within the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

This sixth route joins the existing five, expanding visitor options for those seeking to experience one of the world’s most iconic hikes. The newly added section will have a limited daily capacity of 100 visitors, ensuring the preservation of the trail and its surroundings.

According to the Ministry, Route 6 is “in adequate conditions for the transit of visitors” and has been fully integrated into the current management system of the Inca Trail Network.

For reference, Routes 1–4 each accommodate 500 visitors per day, while Route 5 has a capacity of 250 visitors.

Additionally, starting Monday, November 17, reservations and payments for Inca Trail and Machu Picchu entrance tickets for 2026 will be open — great news for those planning their next Andean adventure well in advance!

Stay tuned for updates on how this new route will enhance trekking itineraries and open new perspectives on the ancient path to Machu Picchu.
